Privacy Policy
Effective date: 11 October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Ficious ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Ficious, Ficious Care, and related apps and services (the "Services").
1. Information we collect
- Account information you provide, such as your email address and username.
- Profile details and content you choose to provide, such as display name, avatar, posts, comments, messages, listings, and aquarium profiles.
- Marketplace information when you use those features, such as listing, order, chat, and in-app handoff or QR confirmation details.
- Aquarium information and readings that you enter or choose to sync from connected Ficious devices, where those features are available.
- Technical and security information, such as IP address, device and app version, log and session events, and information needed to detect abuse or troubleshoot errors.
- Information you include when contacting support, and your language preference stored in your browser or app.
2. How we use information
We use information to create and maintain accounts; operate community, aquarium-care, marketplace, order, chat, and handoff features that you choose to use; display the profile information and content you make public; provide support and service notices; protect users and the Services; diagnose technical issues; improve reliability; and meet legal obligations. We do not use private account information to send promotional messages unless you have opted in or applicable law otherwise allows it.
3. How we share information
We do not sell personal information. Information you publish, including public profile details, posts, and listings, can be seen by other users; messages and transaction details are shared with the people involved in that interaction. We may also disclose the minimum information needed to service providers supporting hosting, communications, security, and maintenance; to authorities or other parties when required by law or necessary to protect people, rights, or the Services; and as part of a proposed business transfer, subject to appropriate safeguards. Providers may process information in locations where they or their infrastructure operate, subject to applicable transfer requirements.
4. Data retention
We keep information for as long as your account and the relevant feature require it, and for a reasonable period afterward to handle support, safety, disputes, backups, and legal obligations. Public content may remain visible until you remove it or close your account; copies already shared by others or retained in protected backups may not disappear immediately. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or remove identifying details, unless law requires or permits continued retention.
5. Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you may ask to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, or object to or restrict certain processing. You can edit some profile or content information in the Services. To make another request, contact us below; we may need to verify your identity and may retain information where legally permitted or required. You may also have the right to complain to a competent data-protection authority.
6. Contact us
Questions about this policy can be sent to [email protected].
7. Cookies, local storage, and device permissions
The marketing site stores your language preference in browser local storage so it remains selected between visits. On a public Ficious Care aquarium-card page, optional first-party analytics are off until you accept; if accepted, the browser stores that choice and the service records the opaque share-link ID (which is associated with its owner's link), event type, and server timestamp for card views and app/store-link taps. Those analytics rows contain no direct account ID, IP address, user agent, or client-supplied metadata. You can decline or change the choice from the page's privacy controls. Account features may use session technologies needed to sign in and protect your account. The apps or connected-device features may request permissions needed for a feature you choose, such as camera access to scan a QR code. You can manage browser storage and device permissions in your settings; disabling them may affect the related feature.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect information. No internet service, device, or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure. Keep your credentials private and contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.
9. Children
The Services are not directed to children who are not legally able to use them without the required parent or guardian involvement. If you believe a child has provided personal information contrary to applicable law, contact us so we can review the request.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Services or applicable requirements change. We will update the effective date above and, where required, provide additional notice or obtain consent before a material change takes effect.
